Homework Routines:

Math
-
In addition to Bridges Home Connections HW, students should be practicing multiplication facts of: 0, 1, 2, 4, 5, 8 & 10's. This is the minimum expectation for mastery 1st trimester. Students are encouraged to move through learning their facts at their own pace. We have several sites available to assist in practicing basic facts. Please check out XtraMath and IXL.
All students have IXL log-ins established for my classroom, as well as XtraMath.

Starting in IXL
** Start at 3rd grade level and complete the following:
* F.1 through F.13 (multiplication practice)
* R.4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, and R.22 (area & perimeter)
These sections in the 3rd grade will support student practice on our current math goals of multiplication facts, and relating multiplication to area. If the problems are too challenging; have child move down a grade level. If problems are completed accurately and quickly; have your child move up a grade level.

Reading-
* Students are expected to read 30 minutes every night. Reading may consist of:
1. Reading a book within their AR ZPD
2. Parent or older sibling reading to or with the student
3. Books on MP3 player with the book to follow along (check the local library) or download from the library onto your computer or Kindle Fire (need a library card).

The book does not need to be an AR book. However, it should be a chapter book in the child's AR ZPD that will take several days to complete.

Spelling-
Spelling words will be attached to your child's homework packet every Friday. The actual spelling test will be on Thursday each week. We do some practice in the classroom with spelling, but this may not be enough practice for each child.

Writing -
Writing will come home a few times a month beginning in October. The assignment may include: finishing a story started at school, editing or revising a story draft, or reading their story to someone in their family for feedback.
