Welcome to the 2011-12 School Year!
First of all, we are very excited for this year, and we know it is
going to be a great one. There are a few changes in store for the
school year in Math 8 and Honors Math 8. Our grading policy is in
the process of an overhaul. We are transitioning to a standards
based grading system. We believe that this grading system will
provided your students with grades that more accurately reflect
their learning in math.
Assessments will now count as 100% of the student's grade.
Assessments will come in different forms including quizzes, tests
and projects. Daily homework assignments will still be given and
they will be entered into the gradebook based on completion.
All tests and quizzes can be re-taken if the student has completed
all of the homework assignments in that unit. Students will also
need to show an attempt at re-learning the information. This can
come on the form of a study session with the teacher, a day spent
in after school homework help, or an extra assignment. The re-take
score will be the score entered to count towards the student's
grade.
